Clark county clean Water

The Clean Water division is tasked with protecting the quality of the county’s streams, rivers, and lakes. A main component of this work is education and outreach. I worked with them to increase public awareness by amplifying the look and feel of their identity with bold graphics and color choices.

The storm drain medallion was the most recognizable and ubiquitous imagery of Clean Water’s existing campaign. They did not have the original artwork and used a photograph of the medallion on a storm drain cover when producing print materials. It was clear that my first step would be to create vector artwork of the medallion. I was then inspired to design collateral that played off of the icon’s individual fish and water elements as they represented the division’s commitment to “keep our waterways clean for people, fish and wildlife”. I enlarged and repeated the fish symbol to generate movement and interesting negative space. I used the water component as a background shape and mimicked its peaks and valleys with a repeating vector teardrop pattern which was then applied as a fill. For color options, I chose a bright green and dark teal from the county palette, adding the deep blue of the medallion and a crisp, vibrant azure that suggests purity and cleanliness.
